Cashier/Customer Service

Purpose

Cashiers ensure a smooth and accurate check out process for our customers and assist in the overall strong customer service for the store. Cashiers report to the Front End Manager. Cashiers report directly to their supervisors or manager.

Work Environment

This is a retail environment and may include limited time outdoors.

Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 30 pounds safely.
  • Good communication and listening skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow through on commitments.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple demands and work under pressure.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to be flexible and to adapt to changing conditions quickly.
  • Willingness to be open to learn and take on new responsibilities.
  • Excellent attendance.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow through on commitments.

Responsibilities:

Customer Service

  • Ensure efficient, informative, and friendly service according to established customer service vision and standards.
  • Check out customer’s purchases quickly and accurately.
  • Bag groceries and ask customers if they need any further help.
  • Be aware of customers standing in line and call for backup so that customers wait as little as possible to be checked out.
  • Be familiar with Elm City Market policies and products in order to answer customer questions. Refer unresolved questions or problems to front end manager or front end assistant.

Store Operations

  • Take initiative to stock items or ask for assignments from the Front End Manager when there are no customers to be checked out.
  • Maintain Front End area in a clean, organized, and orderly condition free of carts, baskets, and debris. There is always cleaning to be done.
  • Advise Front End Manager of equipment / replacement needs.
  • Balance cash drawers at the end of your shift. Strive for perfect drawers.

Safety

  • Ensure that department shelves, displays, work areas and storage areas are in clean and orderly condition.
  • Be in compliance with safety practices and procedures, both throughout the store and within the department.
  • Follow security procedures in handling drawers, pick-ups, potential shoplifters, and theft.

Other

  • Comply with all store policies and legal requirements.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Front End Manager.
