Manager on Duty

Purpose:

The Manager on Duty is responsible for ensuring the overall control, management, and security of the store. In the absence of the General Manager, the Manager on Duty makes basic operational decisions on behalf of the store.

Work Environment:

This position will perform functions in retail, warehouse, and office environments.

Requirements:

 

  • At least 3 year experience in a retail grocery environment.
  • At least 2 year managerial experience.
  • Familiarity with natural foods and alternative diets.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • An ability to read, interpret, and understand financial statements.
  • Experience executing goals, effectively creating change, and increasing efficiency.
  • The ability to exercise considerable discretion and judgment consistent with the essential functions of the job.
  • A strong work history demonstrating the principles and practices of management and supervision.
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds safely.

 

Responsibilities:

Customer Service

  • Role model excellent customer service for staff and provide excellent internal service to staff and peers.
  • Ensure that store employees provide excellent customer service.

Personnel Management

  • Actively address performance and personnel issues in a timely manner.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies.
  • Properly document personnel matters and communicate those matters to any applicable department managers, including HR.

Safety

  • Ensure that store shelves, displays, aisles, and storage areas are in clean, orderly condition,
  • meeting health department standards.
  • Ensure compliance with safety practices and procedures throughout the store.
  • Develop a culture of safety among employees.

Training

  • Identify locations where increased training is necessary and act to improve development in that area.
  • Make training recommendations to HR.

Financial

  • Maintain working knowledge of personnel reports, margin reports, weekly sales numbers and financial goals.
  • Communicate standards, expectations, policy changes and product knowledge to staff.

Other

  • Support the General Manager as needed.
  • Always have Elm City Markets best interest in mind.
