Meat + Seafood Clerk


Meat/Seafood Clerks help keep the Meat + Seafood Department stay well stocked and operating smoothly, safely, and efficiently. Clerks report to the Meat + Seafood Manager.

Work Environment:

This position will perform functions in retail + warehouse environments.



  • Ability to lift 50 pounds safely.
  • Familiarity with natural foods and alternative diets.
  • Good communication, teamwork, and listening skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow through on commitments.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Attention to detail and good organizational abilities.

  • Retail meat and fish experience preferred.



Customer Service

  • Ensure efficient, informative, and friendly service according to established customer service vision and standards.
  • Be familiar with company policies and products in order to answer customer questions. Refer unresolved questions or problems to Meat + Seafood Management.
  • Take ownership of a problem and seek out proper solutions.
  • Anticipate customer concerns and address the issue before it happens.


  • Ensure that department shelves, displays, aisles, and storage areas are in clean, orderly condition, meeting health department standards.
  • Follow all safety practices and procedures; encourage others to practice safe behaviors as well.

Store Operations

  • Receive orders, or ensure proper receiving by other staff in accordance with established procedures. Keep accurate receiving records.
  • Coordinate returns and credit from suppliers where applicable. Keep accurate accounting of
    credit requests.


  • Support the Meat + Seafood Manager as needed.

Job Duties

  • Wrap, weigh, label and price cuts of meat.
  • Mark products, work pieces, or equipment with identifying information.
  • Weigh finished products.
  • Prepare meat products for sale or consumption.
  • Prepare and place meat cuts and products in display counter, so they will appear attractive and catch the shopper’s eye.
  • Prepare meat products for sale or consumption.
  • Prepare special cuts of meat ordered by customers.
  • Cut meat products. Cut, trim, bone, tie, and grind meats, such as beef, pork, poultry, and fish, to prepare meat in cooking form.
  • Prepare meat products for sale or consumption.
  • Cut meat products.
  • Receive, inspect, and store meat upon delivery, to ensure meat quality.
  • Inspect food products.
  • Record quantity of meat received and issued to cooks or keep records of meat sales.
  • Record operational or production data. (waste/transfers)
  • Shape, lace, and tie roasts, using a boning knife, skewer, and twine.
  • Prepare meat products for sale or consumption.
